The first day of school is drawing so close. This is about the time when we teachers are taking a look at our classrooms, restocking, regluing, and redesigning the place where we will spend the next 2000+ hours a year of our lives. I always look forward to the first day with some nervous anticipation. After teaching at public school for 5+ years, I surprise myself every year when I wake up the first morning at school with the same nightmare that I went to school wearing–my pajamas!– because I was 2 hours late, a dry mouth, and the jitters. I guess I think it will go away every year the more I teach, but it doesn’t. It’s the day when you want to have a couple of gallons of yummy, caffeine-loaded Starbucks on hand. Go caffeine!
Here’s a sneak peek into my classroom. Next Monday on the first day–eek!– I will show you the full story behind the classroom makeover. I try to keep it simple but a place where I wake up every morning and want to go to. So I spoiled myself this year with some extras for me: an essential oil diffuser, a lava lamp, a rug for my desk, and of course a coffee bar. A teacher should spoil herself a little, right?
Above all the most important thing to me is the chance I have to instill in these little minds many happy memories and learning moments. I want us to sing together, laugh together, and dance together. I want them to feel like my classroom is the safest and most happiest place they can be. I want them to love learning and love music.
Many happy moments to you.
Love ya, readers!
